Fees
Transparency from the outset
When you need a family lawyer, one of the first questions you may have is how much it will cost. I want you to have a clear understanding from the beginning, so here is how I work.
Every case is different, and there is no single fee for all divorces, child custody matters or applications to modify existing court orders. For this reason, you will not find a generic price list here. Instead, I prefer to explain the cost of your specific case in writing, before you make any decisions.
How it works
-
Initial consultation. We discuss your situation and explore your legal options.
-
Written fee quote. Within a maximum of 48 hours, I will send you a written breakdown of my fees and the services included.
-
You decide. If you wish to proceed, we formally agree on the terms of my engagement. If not, you are under no obligation to instruct me.
Initial consultation: €80 + IVA
The consultation fee is €80 + IVA. If you decide to instruct me, this amount will be deducted from my legal fees.
The consultation can take place in person in Madrid or online, and in Spanish or English. During the consultation, I will:
-
Assess your situation and review the main documents you provide.
-
Evaluate your legal options and explain the possible next steps.
-
Answer your questions and identify any additional documentation that may be required.
The initial consultation does not oblige you to instruct me to handle your case.
What the fee quote includes
-
The legal services and work covered by the quote.
-
The applicable legal fees.
-
The payment method and schedule.
-
Any expenses not included in the legal fees.
-
The terms and conditions of the engagement.
What determines the cost?
Family law proceedings vary in complexity. The main factors affecting the cost include whether an agreement can be reached or contested court proceedings are necessary, the number of issues to be resolved, the documentation and evidence that must be prepared, and whether the case involves financial assets or international elements.
An uncontested divorce with a straightforward agreement does not require the same amount of work as a contested divorce involving disagreements over child custody, maintenance, the family home and financial assets.
Payment terms
An initial payment is due at the start of the proceedings, generally amounting to 50% of the total legal fees. Depending on the circumstances of the case, this initial payment may be reduced to 40% or 30%.
The remaining balance may be paid in instalments, provided that the total fees are paid in full before an agreement is reached or, if no agreement is reached, before the court hearing takes place.
Expenses not included in legal fees
In addition to legal fees, certain expenses may arise, such as court agent (procurador) fees, expert fees, translation costs, service of documents and travel expenses. Whenever these costs can be anticipated, I will explain them to you before you incur them.
If the scope of the proceedings changes
If circumstances arise that require additional work not originally anticipated and affect the agreed fees, I will inform you before proceeding with that additional work.
